Mak Asiah has passed away, but during her lifetime, Pak Merdeka wanted to spend the rest of his life with his children and chose to stay with Zaki, who is married. Despite Azim's persistent attempts to convince Pak Merdeka to live with him, Pak Merdeka gives various excuses. Since childhood, Azim has tried to win Pak Merdeka's heart even though he is only an adopted son, and he genuinely loves Pak Merdeka, yet for some reason Pak Merdeka stubbornly refuses to live with him. On the other hand, in his own son's home, Pak Merdeka's presence is disliked by Zaki's wife, Sarah. Sarah dislikes how Pak Merdeka often wears the flag that he calls his Merdeka blanket and boasts stories about how proud he is to be Pak Merdeka's son because he was born on August 31st. To Sarah, Pak Merdeka's behavior is annoying.
